IDC supplied the following information in a recent statement. Essentially, mobile workers are predicted to reach a shocking 1.2 billion by the end of 2010. But be careful to pay attention to the regional growth.
The driving force behind the growth is the emerging markets of Asia/Pacific and the regions use of unified communications (UC) technologies. According to the analysts, the mobile workforces in the U.S. and Europe have peaked. The U.S. is described as having a highly concentrated mobile workforce, but that by 2013 over 75 percent of workers will be described as mobile in some way–that’s 129 million people. Compare that to Asia/Pacific figures, and you’ll see why IDC is saying the real action won’t be in the U.S. By 2013, about 37 percent of Asia/Pacific workers will be described as mobile, and before you say that percentage sounds smaller, it is actually 734.5 million people!

Not surprisingly, “open” was a common theme at the show. In a keynote address Tuesday morning, Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao touted his company’s openness to content providers, app stores and application developers while also chastising companies like Google and Yahoo! for what he considers their potentially monopolistic hold on the Internet search and advertising market. And Vodafone was not alone. Newly minted GSMA member Verizon Wireless also pushed its open message during a press conference with Skype announcing a custom Skype Mobile application for its smartphones.

Not sure if you heard yet or not, but Skype and Verizon have announced that they’ve been working to develop an always-on Skype Mobile app. Holy cow, can you believe it?! Can you imagine the implications! Let’s talk about this and what it all means for the hosted VoIP sector of the business VoIP industry.
So, “What does this technology do exactly?” you ask. “Good question,” we say.
Well, the app will basically allow for unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls. Doesn’t seem that cool now that you know this is the only function, huh? But here is the kicker. According to Fierce VoIP, “the app will allow for unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and cheap international calls at Skype’s VoIP rates.” Apparently you also need a data plan. But who doesn’t have a data plan now-a-day anyways. So basically the app can save you money on international calls. But there is more to this if you are a hosted VoIP PBX fan…

2010 is here and the hosted VoIP sector of the business VoIP industry is forecasted to grow at an alarming rate. So what does this mean for the future of VoIP phones?
The bottom line is the VoIP phone market is going boom and continue to grow, no question about it. End users are always looking for better options, cheaper calls and a reliable business VoIP system that can be upgraded easily without spending thousands of dollars on new hardware every few years. People want the best and they want it fast. VoIP phones are no exception.
Hosted VoIP & Presidents Day
Well, today is President’s Day but the dedicated staff at FreedomVoice is in the office working hard to take our hosted VoIP PBX, FreedomIQ, to the next level. So we have this page all about hosted VoIP on Squidoo. It’s pretty new, about a month old, so I wanted to quickly introduce it to you.
The Basics on Squidoo
Squidoo is a pretty cool site. Basically it lets you build a web page containing whatever information you want. Of course in our situation all we care about is hosted VoIP PBX and business VoIP service, so that is what our Squidoo page is about. But no matter what your interest you can make a Squidoo page. Just make sure you get on it quick because all of the good URL extensions are being snatched up. Kind of like what is going on in the All Top space.

What is Unified Communications?
Unified communications is not a new term in telecommunications. But as time goes on it seems that more and more technologies are falling into this aggregate category. So what is unified communications? When someone refers to unified communications what are they really saying?
Definition of Unified Communications
According to the International Engineering Consortium, unified communications is an industry term used to describe all forms of call and multimedia/cross-media message-management functions controlled by an individual user for both business and social purposes. This includes any enterprise informational or transactional application process that emulates a human user and uses a single, content-independent personal messaging channel (mailbox) for contact access.
