Some interesting news was just released today; Broadsoft and Polycom are teaming up to deliver an integrated unified communications platform. Here is what it’s all about.
Essentially, the new platform, known as V2Connet, brings together Polycom’s Open Collaboration Network and Broadsofts Broadworks VoIP application platform. The goal of this business VoIP focused endeavor is to create a combined offering, giving service providers a unified voice and video solution in a hosted service. Not a bad idea, right? But where do current hosted VoIP PBX providers, many of which are devote fans of Polycom VoIP phones, fit in.
According to FierceVoIP, “The service brings voice and video together into one service where they once would have operated independently. The companies are also introducing a go-to-market program allowing Value Added Resellers and Systems Integrators to host and manage V2Connect on behalf of an enterprise.”
So while we do not know all of the details yet, it would seem that this is a win-win situation for hosted VoIP PBX providers. Although it will take a serious effort on a business VoIP providers part to put this technology into effect, any hosted service should be able to integrate with the V2Connect system. This will give them the opportunity to provide VoIP phone video to customers who have the correct equipment.
We’ve been talking about VoIP phone video for business VoIP for some time now. This seems to be a big step towards turning the idea into a reality. With a major player like Polycom making a push for integration, we can only predict that this new offering will further spark the stimulation of VoIP phone video in the business VoIP world.
