In sports, an equalizer (or equaliser) is match-tying point, an even-ing of the score. It’s that swing in momentum when the team that was at a disadvantage comes surging back.
When I talk about hosted VoIP technology, that’s how I like to describe it: an equalizer for entrepreneurs and SMBs. So today I’m outlining just a few of the ways a hosted VoIP PBX can help your small business operate at the same level as your larger competitors, providing you with enterprise-grade communications that won’t tax your budget and resources.

In a seemingly unnecessary move, that frankly wasted the time of everyone involved, when they should be focused on important issues like continued exponential growth in market penetration, hosted VoIP service providers and other industry experts convened yesterday on the topic of how to pronounce the word string of letters, “VoIP”.
A House Divided
The conference was largely separated into two camps: those that pronounce VoIP as “voyp” and those that spell out the abbreviation as “v-o-i-p”. Minority parties included those that still say the full, “Voice over Internet Protocol,” and those that only abbreviate the latter words as, “Voice over IP”…

Throughout the recent months, I’ve tested a lot of video conferencing devices for hosted VoIP service and none top this newcomer: the Polycom CX5000 VoIP phone.
This new Polycom product brings video conferencing to another level with a 360 panoramic view, automatic speaker focus, USB plug and play features, and much more. This conference device takes meetings to a new level, which saves time, money, traveling expenses, and most of all, the cost for additional equipment. That’s right, no additional equipment required for your hosted VoIP PBX.

Here are some important items to consider when choosing a business VoIP phone system.
Is it Scalable?
Scalability is very important. Make sure that the phone system allows you to easily add and remove users. Companies add and remove employees all the time, make sure your phone system can easily adapt to this change. Hosted VoIP phone systems are great for this because users can be added or removed at will.
Is it VoIP Based?
Business VoIP phone systems are all the rage these days. They offer more features and are less expensive than analogue phone systems. In this writer’s opinion, stay away from buying a non-VoIP phone system. The technology is outdated and the VoIP options available today are far superior.

Hosted VoIP PBX business VoIP service and other forms of unified communication are making it increasingly easy for workers to accomplish their duties via mobile device.
Whether using hosted VoIP PBX, another form of business VoIP, or some other service supporting a UC device, the sheer size of the predicted mobile worker base is astounding.
IDC supplied the following information in a recent statement. Essentially, mobile workers are predicted to reach a shocking 1.2 billion by the end of 2010. But be careful to pay attention to the regional growth.
The driving force behind the growth is the emerging markets of Asia/Pacific and the regions use of unified communications (UC) technologies. According to the analysts, the mobile workforces in the U.S. and Europe have peaked. The U.S. is described as having a highly concentrated mobile workforce, but that by 2013 over 75 percent of workers will be described as mobile in some way–that’s 129 million people. Compare that to Asia/Pacific figures, and you’ll see why IDC is saying the real action won’t be in the U.S. By 2013, about 37 percent of Asia/Pacific workers will be described as mobile, and before you say that percentage sounds smaller, it is actually 734.5 million people!

So I was brushing up on industry news and something struck me. Whether you work in hosted VoIP PBX or not, everyone in the communications industry is in app frenzy. It’s insane!
Check out this excerpt from an article posted today on FierceWireless. In this commentary, they are providing perspectives on the Mobile World Congress currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain.
Not surprisingly, “open” was a common theme at the show. In a keynote address Tuesday morning, Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao touted his company’s openness to content providers, app stores and application developers while also chastising companies like Google and Yahoo! for what he considers their potentially monopolistic hold on the Internet search and advertising market. And Vodafone was not alone. Newly minted GSMA member Verizon Wireless also pushed its open message during a press conference with Skype announcing a custom Skype Mobile application for its smartphones.
